We are proud to recognize Daniel Winkle, MD, chief, division of physical medicine and rehabilitation and director of acute rehabilitation services. We also recognize the teams at San Leandro Hospital’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for their outstanding performance during The Joint Commission’s (TJC) survey.
The ARU was recognized for its whole-body evidence-based trauma relief program, a holistic approach that integrates evidence-based mind and body techniques to support healing and recovery. The San Leandro Hospital ICU was recognized for its strong performance in monitoring key quality and patient safety measures that support safe, effective and evidence-based care for critically ill patients.
“This recognition was an incredible surprise,” Winkle said. “I continue to envision how holistic programs like this can become a larger part of our health system for both patients and staff. The transformative power of moving beyond disease-focused models and caring for people as whole human beings continues to inspire me.”
Surveyors identified two performance strengths during the review. In the TJC, performance strengths are exceptionally strong, novel or innovative processes that support safe and high-quality patient care and are documented so other health care organizations can learn from them globally.
These findings reflect practices recognized by surveyors as models of excellence in patient care and safety.
Congratulations to Dr. Winkle and the ARU and ICU teams on this well-deserved honor and thank you for your ongoing commitment to providing safe, high-quality care to our patients and community.
