Passionate about community service and building on my previous roles in the field, I became both a mother and a community health outreach worker (CHOW) at Alameda Health System (AHS) in 2019.

Starting out, I was supporting families in pediatrics while navigating new motherhood myself. Since then, my role has grown to include supporting mothers in Obstetrics, Midwifery & Gynecology (OMG) at Highland Hospital, as well as patients with substance use challenges in the K-6 Clinic.

This work naturally led me to co-facilitate the Growing, Glowing, Afterglow Project (GGAP), a perinatal mental health group that supports moms as they navigate anxiety and depression while building a strong support network throughout pregnancy and postpartum.

One of the most rewarding moments in my work was seeing a GGAP participant achieve her goal of becoming a certified community health worker (CHW).

She not only completed her CHW certification while raising 11 children, but she also returned as a health coach and later delivered the keynote speech at our Mother’s Day celebration.

Her journey was a full-circle moment for me and a powerful reminder of what’s possible with support, belief and community.
