About the AHS POET Clinic

The POET Clinic provides pre-operative anesthesia care to all AHS outpatient surgical and procedural patients. As of May 2023, all POET appointments are currently telehealth (phone and video) visits. The POET clinic is a professional team of highly experienced nurses and anesthesiologists who are dedicated to ensuring the best possible outcomes for our surgical patients.

If you anticipate having surgery at Alameda Health System, your surgical care team will schedule an appointment with the POET Clinic. If you have any questions, please discuss this with your surgical care team.

POET Care Includes

  • Assessing the patient’s medical condition to ensure a safe and successful surgical experience.
  • Providing information and answering questions about anesthesia, preparing for surgery and recovery.
  • Reviewing the patient’s medical record and current medications.
  • Discussing the patient’s medical history and past anesthesia experiences.
  • Ordering and reviewing lab tests and other diagnostic tests as needed.
  • Consulting with other members of the patient’s care team.
