Caring for Community Health and Safety at Every Age at the Alameda Health System Health Fair

Free flu shots, bike helmets and health screenings to keep children through seniors safe and healthy

Oakland, Calif.— Oct. 16, 2017 — As a committed partner who understands the health and safety needs of the communities it serves, Alameda Health System is offering free flu shots and health screenings on October 21 at Alameda Hospital’s 25th annual Community Health Fair.

About 40 local community, emergency and law enforcement agencies, in addition to medical staff from important Alameda Hospital programs, will provide health education and screenings, dietary counseling and tips for children’s safety, including offering free bike helmets to children under 12 years old. Alameda Fire Department and its Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), will be conducting a mass immunization drill in conjunction with Alameda Health System’s free community flu vaccination clinic.

More than 1,000 Bay Area residents are expected to attend the event which will feature booths to create KidSafe Photo IDs for small children, and screen adults of all ages for osteoporosis, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, while providing tips for stroke and cancer prevention, healthy nutrition and disaster preparedness.
