New AHS Committee to Address Diversity

Alameda Health System has established a Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (HEDI) that will bring a systematic approach and vision to advancing health equity, diversity and inclusion at all levels of the system. HEDI will look beyond the type and quality of services AHS provided. It will also look inward and ask to what extent is the AHS culture diverse and inclusive.

The committee will focus on five key areas: Workplace Diversity, Equity of Care, Workforce Development, Integrated Community Partnerships and Inclusive Leadership Development.

Alameda County is one of the country’s most ethnically diverse communities. “We believe that in order to provide culturally competent care we need to be intentional in how we operate. HEDI’s mission is to enhance the well-being of, and reduce the disparities in health care experienced by, underrepresented and marginalized patients in the community we serve,” said AHS CEO Delvecchio Finley.
