On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors appointed Dr. Taft Bhuket to the Alameda Health System Board of Trustees, replacing Trustee Dr. Barry Zorthian. Bhuket is the Chief of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and the Director of the Endoscopy Unit at Alameda Health System’s Highland Hospital.
Since joining the Alameda Health System in 2008, Bhuket has served the organization in a variety of committee and leadership roles. Bhuket is a highly respected clinician-educator with clinical interests in colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal bleeding, and complications of liver disease. During his tenure at AHS he has received the “Teacher of the Year” award five times and in 2014 he received the AHS “Physician of the Year” award.
Bhuket studied medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and completed his internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern/Parkland Hospital and his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Michigan where he served as Chief Fellow.
