Let’s Help Our Neighborhood Children Succeed!

Backpack and School Supply Drive…

As our neighborhood children return to in-person learning, some for the very first time, let’s help them have what they need to succeed!

In 2019 Alameda Health System (AHS) held a successful backpack and school supply drive for a neighborhood school just blocks from Highland Hospital. This year we have expanded our efforts and in partnership with local school districts we have selected a school to support near each of our facilities. That’s a total of seven schools!

“We believe all children deserve to learn and grow and we’re excited to be able to provide some of tools they need for a successful school year,” said Louise Nakada, Community Engagement manager. “This past year has been extremely difficult for some of our families and we want our neighborhood children to begin the school year with confidence.”

A backpack full of supplies like, paper, pens, folders and colored pencils, can go a long way in supporting our youth. Arriving equipped for the school day helps students feel confident, engaged and focused on learning. 

“We know learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for some students and especially difficult for families who experience financial hardships,” said Nakada. “As students begin to head back to the classroom the need for supplies and backpacks will be greater than ever.”

Acceptable donations include new backpacks, crayons, pencils, paper, folders, scissors, etc. Please check the flyer at your location for details. Since each school, and school district, is on a different schedule, the backpack and school supply drives are coordinated at each facility and details are being shared below.

“We encourage everyone to participate in the drive and help our students succeed,” said Nakada.
