San Leandro Hospital ILWU Bargaining Update #5
On May 19, 2020, San Leandro Hospital (SLH) met with the International Longshoremen and Warehouse Union (ILWU), Local 6 to negotiate and secure a new collective bargaining agreement that is clear, comprehensive and easy to interpret by staff, managers and SLH.
The Hospital presented two proposals on the reduction in force and hours of work. The proposal on reduction in force aligned with the order of layoff that the union was seeking. The hours of work proposal contains language to establish a clear process for filling extra shifts, assigning overtime, the distribution and compensation protocol for on-call shifts and a process for conducting shift rebids.
The ILWU presented three proposals including the reduction in force, employment categories and hours of work. We will be evaluating these proposals in order to respond accordingly.
Alameda Health System (AHS) recognizes the value of ILWU members in providing high quality care to the community we serve. AHS is committed to the bargaining process and will continue to meet and bargain in good faith to reach a fair agreement that provides competitive salaries and benefits and ensures our ability to meet the needs of those we serve in a sustainable manner.
The next ILWU Local 6 San Leandro Hospital unit bargaining session is scheduled for June 2, 2020.
