Last month the Alameda Health System’s (AHS) Black Employee Affinity Network teamed up with the AHS Dental program to provide dental kits to students at REACH Academy in Oakland.
The team provided nearly 150 dental kits that included 300 toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss along with tips on how to keep teeth healthy and referral information to the Eastmont Wellness Center Pediatric Dental Clinic. and oral hygiene educational materials.
“Beginning on Halloween and through the holidays, sugary sweets are aplenty, and most people consume more sugar than they should during the last three months of the year,” said Charmaine Ng, Dental Chair of AHS “We wanted to provide the students the tools they need to care for their teeth and prevent oral health problems.”
According to Dr. Ng, tips to keep your teeth healthy this holiday season include, brushing your teeth after eating, flossing daily, limiting sugary foods and drinks and scheduling and keeping your routine dental care appointments.
