A Girl Scout troop from Hayward and Castro Valley visited Alameda Health System’s (AHS) Family Birthing Center Monday to donate baby supplies to new parents.

Scouts Zoe Davis and Kira Jones dropped off the baskets, which included Girl Scout Cookies, to two moms who had recently given birth.

In return, new mom and AHS patient Jennifer Mendez made the Scouts a handmade card that read “Girl Scouts are the best.”

“You are so sweet, thank you so much,” Mendez said to the girls.

The Family Birthing Center at AHS offers 24/7 services to birthing people, including neonatal intensive care, labor and delivery, and postpartum units. The birthing center practices midwife-centered care, which is proven to lead to better outcomes for patients and their babies.

Monday’s visit was not the first time the Scouts had visited AHS. Every year the troupe donates to the families of babies born on or around March 12, which is when the Girl Scouts were first founded in 1912.
