In January of 2018 our Board of Trustees voted to authorize the implementation of our Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR), one of the most significant investments in Alameda Health System’s (AHS) history.
We are honored to report that as of September 28, our Epic EHR is up and running! AHS joins more than 400 other health systems and nearly 60 percent of California patients already using Epic. It took a lot of hard work, patience and perseverance but we delivered.
It has been an extraordinary experience watching teams of physicians, clinicians, operations and information services all coming together and partnering to make implementation possible. We recognize the thousands of hours it took to get Epic up and running and we extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone.
We also want to thank our Board of Trustees for the confidence they had in us, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors for their commitment to our mission and to our partners in the health care community, especially Kaiser Permanente for their investment in the health of our community.
This is a major milestone for AHS. It illustrates our dedication to promoting access to high-quality affordable care to our communities. The system will also empower our patients to manage their own care by giving them greater access to their medical records and health information.
With the implementation stage now complete, we will move forward to refine and perfect the system.
The EHR is the backbone for all our system transformation efforts to provide care for the future including value-based outcomes and population health management that will ensure our ability to deliver efficient and effective services and improve the patient experience.
Again, this ambitious effort would not have been possible without all of you. We are truly grateful for your commitment to the health and wellbeing of the people of Alameda County.
