The holiday season and Fall weather bring indoor social gatherings and the perfect combination to spread the flu. Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness that can cause mild to severe illness. A bad case of the flu can result in hospitalization or even death. Because flu viruses are unpredictable and can change over time, everyone six months and older should get a flu vaccine each year as the vaccine you received last year may not protect you this year. It’s recommended that you get your annual flu shot before the holidays and before influenza season peaks.

Your doctor’s office or primary care clinic is the best place to get your flu vaccines so don’t forget to ask about your flu shot at your next visit.

Alameda Health System (AHS) patients can get their flu vaccine by calling the AHS Ambulatory Call Center at 510-437-8500, or by drop-in at all AHS wellness clinics. Please visit the Alameda Health System website at www.alamedahealthsystem.org/flu-vaccine for locations, days and hours.
