The flu is not something to underestimate—it can be serious, especially for those who are most vulnerable, including babies, older adults and those with chronic health conditions.

As a pediatrician and a person who grew up in the Town, I’ve seen too many of my patients miss school and parents miss work this time of year because of the flu. Fortunately, there is something we can do about it. We can get vaccinated!

The flu vaccine is safe and effective and cannot infect you with the flu. The vaccine continues to be one of the best ways to prevent illness. There are a few people who go on to catch the flu even after they have been vaccinated, but their symptoms are much milder if they have been protected with the vaccine.

Remember, the weather is getting cooler and many of us will start to gather indoors. This may increase your chances of catching the flu and other wintertime viruses that can lead to missed work, school, game nights, family gatherings and more. Let’s work together to keep you as healthy as possible this flu season. Get vaccinated!

Be well,
