In efforts to keep hospitalized patients engaged and informed about their care, Alameda Health System (AHS) expanded MyChart Bedside to Alameda Hospital’s Med-Surg and Tele Units. In January 2024 the tool was successfully rolled out at San Leandro Hospital.

MyChart Bedside allows patients to view information on their vital signs, laboratory results, medical procedures, and medications in real time. It also allows patients to learn about their care team, request services, and access educational information. Patients can also access health information of other people if they have been granted access.

“We rolled out Bedside because we know that engaged patients are healthier, happier, and better informed,” said Dr. Dana Littlepage, vice president of patient care administrative services, “Bedside improves communication, raises patient satisfaction, and encourages patients to stay involved in their care after they go home from the hospital.”

According to Dr. Littlepage, the tool also leads to more efficient care, as there are fewer non-urgent interruptions for providers, allowing them to focus on critical tasks and ultimately enhancing overall patient care.

“We’re thrilled about the transformative impact MyChart Bedside will have on patient engagement and care outcomes,” said Dr. Littlepage.

MyChart Bedside can be accessed by hospitalized patients at San Leandro Hospital and Alameda Hospital’s Med-Surg and Tele Units via their personal devices or on tablets provided by the System. With implementation at our two community hospitals completed, discussions are underway regarding where and when to further expand the technical capabilities and access.

Dr. Littlepage said patients must first create a MyChart account, which is available at no cost to all AHS patients. MyChart allows patients to view their medical records and their family’s records online anywhere, anytime. Hospitalized patients that do not have an active account, can request support from their care team to open an account.
