ALAMEDA, Calif., Oct. 1, 2024 – Alameda Health System’s (AHS) Community Health Fair returns to Alameda Hospital this year with a full lineup of free health services, including first-come first-serve flu and COVID-19 vaccines.

The fair will be held on Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon, in the Alameda Hospital parking lot.

“Offering free health screenings and resources to our community is one of the many ways we serve our neighbors and act on our mission of caring, healing, teaching and serving all,” said Mario Harding, AHS’ chief administrative officer of community hospitals. “This event helps ensure that everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, has access to essential health services. Together, we can foster a healthier, stronger community.”

A number of community organizations will join AHS providers to offer free health screenings, including blood sugar screenings. There will be demonstrations on how to handle severe bleeding, and a concussion awareness exercise featuring concussion-simulating goggles. Providers will also be fitting and handing out free bike helmets for kids under 12. The COVID-19 vaccine offered is the 2024 through 2025 Moderna Spikevax, safe for anyone 12 years old and older.

“The Community Health Fair is a great opportunity to make sure you’re up to date on your vaccines and ready for the upcoming flu season,” said Dr. Elizabeth Mahler, associate chief medical officer for community hospitals at AHS. “Alameda Hospital is a critical resource for our community, and we look forward to serving our neighbors in Alameda and beyond.”

The Community Health Fair is an annual event in Alameda.

“At Alameda Health System, we are deeply committed to serving the island of Alameda and improving the health of all who call Alameda home,” said AHS CEO James Jackson. “Alameda Hospital is a critical community resource, and its health fairs are an opportunity to engage with the community while offering essential health care resources such as vaccines, regardless of a patient’s ability to pay for services. By coming together to offer these resources, we are creating a healthier future for all.”
