Alameda Health System’s (AHS) Food and Nutrition Services held a successful “Soctober” sock drive to support shelters and organizations that provide services to the unhoused members of our community.  Socks are the most needed, but the least donated pieces of clothing, especially during the cold winter season.

During the month of October, sock donations were collected in AHS cafés at Alameda Hospital, Fairmont Hospital, Highland Hospital, and San Leandro Hospital. As a result of the generosity of the AHS family, over 2,100 pairs of new socks will be distributed to organizations serving the most vulnerable.

A friendly competition between AHS departments resulted in a victory for Highland Hospital’s Operating Room, Sterile Processing Department, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, and Same Day Surgery as the team collected an amazing 867 pairs of socks!

Thank you to everyone who participated and for supporting the community we serve.
